Arts Action Alert for Pennsylvania: Arts Advocacy Days in Harrisburg June 6 and 7

June 2, 2011

From an email I received 6/2/2011 from the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council:
As you know, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA) grants funding has been cut by 70% in the House Budget Bill. These cuts would eliminate $6 million in state grants to arts, 4,000 days in classrooms through the PCA’s Arts in Education programs, and nearly $2 billion in economic activity. The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council hass been meeting with a number of legislators at their local offices, and next week we will be taking the fight to Harrisburg. On June 6th and 7th the Arts Council will be joining advocates from across the state in canvasing the halls of the Capitol. We encourage local arts advocates to do the same.

If you are unable to make it to Harrisburg next week, please find the time to call your legislators or schedule a visit with a staffer at a local office. The fight for funding depends on your help!

Let your state legislators know that you are against cuts to the PCA and would like to see it funded at the $8.262 million level proposed by the Governor in his budget. Your legislators’ contact information can be found at: by entering your zip code in the box at the top of the page.
